I have just returned from Dol-y-Moch, North Wales after spending a wonderful 5 days with our Year 6 children, Mrs Knibb and Mrs Bailey. We all had a brilliant time – the sun shone when we were orienteering, searching through rock pools on Criccieth Beach, rock scrambling, climbing at Borth-y-Gest or kayaking back at Dol-y-Moch. We spent a day inside a slate mine and all the children experienced total darkness and had physical challenges climbing out of the mine. When we re-appeared high up on the mountain it started to snow – wonderful experiences all round. We are all very proud of our Year 6 who were a credit to all concerned.

Year 5 have also had a memorable week. They have performed their original ‘Peace’ songs which they have composed with Matt Bramhall, a professional musician. Everyone is very pleased with the end product. Many thanks to all parents who came to the performance. Our Year 5 went on to perform with 5 schools at Alderman’s Green who were also in the Cov Kool Kids project.

Advent club was well attended with about 40 children having a brilliant time together. We made an advent wreath.

Our youngest children have been busy practising for our Nativity performances next week. We hope everyone has requested their 2 tickets per family. The children and staff have worked really hard to complete a memorable Nativity Show.

Year 1 visited the Partnership Centre to study materials. Several of our Year 5 children also represented the school at a ‘Schools of Sanctuary’ meeting at Westwood School. The aim is to promote Peace and Reconciliation throughout our area.

The final Key Stage 2 results have been published. Our leavers recorded Level 4, percentages of 70% in Literacy and Numeracy and 96% in Science. The overall value added measure gives the school a solid average score and a good base for the future. We are confident that the Literacy and Numeracy scores in Year 6 last year would have been higher if the attendance of some pupils was better. Year 6 in Primary School is a very important year and the children need to be in school as much as possible. Children cannot afford to be away for long periods and then expect to achieve their potential. Our school scores this year compare favourably to all our neighbourhood schools and seem to be about average for the City and Country.

We are all looking forward to the next 2 weeks in school and our Christmas activities. Have a pre-festive weekend.
