Newsletter Friday 23rd April 2010

I do hope that everyone had an enjoyable Easter holiday and that any members or friends of your family are now back safely if they were caught up in the chaos caused by the volcanic ash plume.  I can assure you that Mrs Brook (stuck in America) and myself (stuck in Gibraltar) are both really glad to be back at school after very exhausting long journeys home!

The first week back has proved memorable for our Year 6 and 12 Year 5 children as they were all involved in our Business Activity Day on Wednesday.  You may recall that Leigh is one of 36 schools spread across the whole of England that is piloting a ‘Career Related Learning’ project for 10/11 year olds.  The Business Day is one of the activities and was interesting for all concerned.  We had representatives of Cavendish Engineering, Dennis Eagle Manufacturing, Coventry Building Society, Jaguar, Landrover, JRH Builders and Ericsson communications.  Children took it in turns to work with each business and try to understand about skills required for work.  Feedback from the businesses again underlined how well behaved and focussed our children can be.

Matt Bramhall has also been in recording the lovely ‘peace’ songs written by our Year 4 and 5 children.  These will be performed at Coventry Cathedral in June.

Year 4 have started swimming and cricket coaching has already re-commenced.

Our children had the opportunity to eat Roast Beef and all the trimmings on St. Georges Day today.

We have a busy term ahead of us with children being involved in special arts projects, involvement in a dance interpretation for the Coventry Mysteries Play, a film making project for Year 6 (after SAT’s week) and Year 2 are involved in a dance production for the Cov Cool Kids project.

Please remember that school is closed on 3rd May for Bank Holiday and also Thursday 6th May as the school is used as a polling station.
