We’ve had a busy week in school again. The children have probably told you that we have been doing assessments of progress for this term so that we can get an accurate picture of how each child is doing. We can then target our resources effectively to deal with any weak points. A major national problem for primary schools is trying to improve writing in its various forms, e.g. stories, poems, diaries, scripts etc. Children at Leigh do need to have time at home to read, learn spellings and if possible practice writing. This can take many forms – one girl showed me some verses that she had specially written for a song, another showed me a diary of events from the school holiday, another showed me her own recount of a story heard in assembly that had been the starting point of her thoughts. Please encourage your child to write at home and bring in anything they are proud of.

Our school Advisor/Inspector has been in this week and given us a very positive picture of how the school, as a whole is progressing. We know there is still a lot to do and we are all committed to the school motto of ‘Aim ever Higher”.

There have been so many commendable activities. The Foundation Class and Key Stage 1 Nativity was a great success. The children were all very enthusiastic and sand their socks off! The evening performance was highly memorable and I thank everyone for coming to support the children. A DVD is currently being made of the evening performance. Details will be sent early next week of how to obtain a copy. A big thank you to all the staff for getting the children to an excellent performance level.

Our Year 5 have completed their swimming course with great success. Our Year 6 have completed their recording of soundtracks for songs. We hope some X-Factor talent emerges from the opportunity!!
We still have a busy week ahead of us. Teachers are organising parties for the children on the following days:-
Foundation and Years 1 and 2 – Wednesday afternoon
Year 3 – 15th December
Year 4 – 15th December
Year 5 – 15th December
Year 6 – 16th December.

Children can bring in party clothes to put on, snacks to eat or music CD’s for them to dance to.

We hope lots of parents can join us in St James Church on Thursday at 2pm. Children whose parents attend can go home from the church.

We also hope that a member of the family can join us on Friday 18th December at 1:30pm for our Christingle Service in the School Hall. The children are making Christingles on Thursday in preparation for this lovely service to finish off our busy term. The service will last for about half an hour. Parents attending the Christingle Service can take their child/children home as it finishes. All other children should be collected by 2:30pm on the last day of term.

I have just returned from Dol-y-Moch, North Wales after spending a wonderful 5 days with our Year 6 children, Mrs Knibb and Mrs Bailey. We all had a brilliant time – the sun shone when we were orienteering, searching through rock pools on Criccieth Beach, rock scrambling, climbing at Borth-y-Gest or kayaking back at Dol-y-Moch. We spent a day inside a slate mine and all the children experienced total darkness and had physical challenges climbing out of the mine. When we re-appeared high up on the mountain it started to snow – wonderful experiences all round. We are all very proud of our Year 6 who were a credit to all concerned.

School Nurse

This is Sam Jauncey who is our School Nurse.  Sam often comes into our school to deliver class training on health issues.

Recent visits have included raising awareness and delivering staff training.  Sam been in recently to talk  to Year 5 & 6 about Relaxation Techniques and Puberty She has also been to Reception to talk about People who help us.
